Relics from a Bygone Era of Sales Dinosaurs!

See, there was a time when salespeople were instructed to “Sell the Sizzle, not the Steak”. During those less noble times, a salesman would corner his potential prospect like a hunter would trap a wounded animal, bombarding his victim with a well-rehearsed sales script. If the victim would even dare to open his mouth, the salesman would have a snappy comeback to any objection the prospect could give.

Finally, as the prospect was exhausted and weary, he would surrender and write his name on the dotted line. All of this without the salesman ever asking the prospect to sign, because the salesman had been taught “people don’t like signing anything.”

This style of salesmanship — one based on hype and pressure– doesn’t work anymore, assuming it ever worked in the first place. Times have changed, but the unfortunate reality is that most salespeople didn’t follow.
